Case Description

This case concerns a prominent restaurateur and employer in the fine-dining sector who allegedly engaged in a prolonged pattern of stalking and harassment toward a young female employee, a waitress and aspiring sommelier.

The woman had obtained what she considered a dream professional opportunity, working in a prestigious and internationally renowned restaurant. According to her testimony, the situation deteriorated when her employer developed a personal interest in her, which escalated into unwanted and intrusive behaviour.

The alleged conduct included persistent and repeated attempts to contact her through phone calls, often from different or unknown numbers, text messages, letters, and the delivery of unsolicited gifts, including expensive items. According to the victim, these actions continued despite her clear refusal and visible discomfort.

Over time, the behaviour reportedly intensified into stalking practices. The victim stated that the employer waited for her outside her home and workplace, followed her in public spaces, and attempted to approach her even when she was accompanied by her partner. She reported feeling increasingly unsafe and began relying on her partner to accompany her during everyday activities.

In an effort to protect herself, the woman resigned from her position in 2016, abandoning what she considered a highly prestigious career opportunity. However, according to the allegations, the resignation did not end the harassment. The unwanted contact reportedly continued and, at times, intensified.

The victim filed multiple formal complaints, leading authorities to issue an official warning prohibiting the alleged perpetrator from approaching her. Despite this measure, the behaviour reportedly persisted. In one of the later incidents described in media reports, the employer allegedly approached and followed the woman after work, prompting her to contact the police. Law enforcement officers intervened at the scene.

The case subsequently became the subject of a criminal investigation for stalking. Prosecutors reportedly considered additional charges in relation to repeated violations of protective measures and confrontational behaviour toward authorities.

This case illustrates a form of gender-based violence characterised by stalking, psychological pressure, and abuse of power within a workplace context. The imbalance between employer and employee appears to have contributed to the persistence of the alleged harassment. Reported consequences for the victim included psychological distress, fear for her personal safety, and the disruption of her professional career path.
